      Barratt
- Investing in London
With
more than 30 years experience of working across all 32 London Boroughs,
Barratt London brings unrivalled experience and commitment to the
task of creating homes for all. Whether it is regenerating obsolete housing
stock, decontaminating and developing industrial land or creating
new residential communities alongside new civic facilities, We have delivered
over 25,000 new homes and over £200 million in contributions to the
life of London, providing new retail, leisure and communal facilities as
well as affordable homes.
Public-Private Partnerships
Barratt
recognises that future generations will judge us by how we respond
to the challenge of renewing and enhancing London’s
infrastructure and the quality of the buildings and communities we
leave as our legacy. The Mayor, the GLA and the new Homes and Communities
Agency have a key role to work with London Boroughs to set the policy
framework and facilitate the delivery of the new homes, shops and
amenities London needs. Developers also have a responsibility to
play their part and work with the public sector to facilitate delivery.
For some years now Barratt has prioritised partnership working and
- with a reputation for delivery that is second to none - we have
actively sought new public sector partners and development opportunities.
That is why our portfolio today includes so many schemes where Barratt
is developing public land, accessing public investment or working
in a range of joint ventures and delivery vehicles to bring forward
schemes. The recent recession has only made clear what we already
knew - that partnership between the public and private sectors
in shaping our built environment - will be fundamental to the future
of London.
Long-term commitment
Major projects require major
commitment and the economic crisis has tested viabilities and left
projects across London uneconomic, or in need of emergency measures.
We know that when public agencies look for a partner they want guaranteed
delivery and a partner that works through the rough and the smooth.
Barratt has remained committed to our projects and the public sector
partners we work with. Our development, construction and sales delivery
teams have continued their work, starting 7 new projects in London
this year. Across London - from our Great West Quarter regeneration
in Brentford in the west, to the transformations of Dalston, Lewisham
town centre, Royal Docks and Canada Water in the east - Barratt is
working with London Boroughs and public sector partners and investing
in London’s future.
Quality design
The
quality of London’s future
built environment will be shaped by the architectural choices we
make today. In recent years Barratt in London has consciously chosen
to embrace leading award-winning architects and empowered them to
bring forward schemes with vision and ambition. Today it is just
not good enough to judge schemes by the bottom line - we know that
costs saved today can quickly become the problems of the future.
We must invest in quality design to deliver attractive and successful
developments for the future. We were delighted this year to win two
prestigious national Housing Design Project Awards for our Tria and
Downtown Place schemes.
Homes for all
Barratt London meets the capital's housing need on every level. We build
homes for rent and for people with special needs, affordable homes for
key workers and first-time buyers. We build for individuals and growing
families and we build lavish homes for those who can afford the best that
money can buy. What's more, we help our customers in every possible way
through a range of incentives proven over 50 years, offering assistance
with mortgages, deposits and Stamp Duty right through to help with moving
expenses, furnishings and other essentials.
Sustainability
Barratt is committed, too, to responding
to the challenges of climate change. As well as being the UK's
leader in recycling redundant industrial and commercial ‘brownfield’ land,
Barratt is the first major developer to unveil a genuinely zero
carbon home, located on the northern edge of London. We preserve as much
of the natural environment as possible, create new green space and parkland
and constantly strive for new ways to integrate sustainability
and eco-friendly features in the homes we build.
Among larger-scale developers, Barratt in London has always been
at the cutting-edge of residential development in London and the
south east, working with dynamic architects to produce ground-breaking
developments which have won every major design and quality award
that our industry can offer. |
